I have been growing a vegetable garden for a few years now, and I like to use it as an opportunity to teach EVERYTHING come Spring. I find students are more motivated when they have a tangible project, so our veggie garden touches on science, math, literacy, environmental responsibility, community involvement, health and nutrition, and (of course) art.
The neighbourhood that my school is in has a community garden that is run by
a retired gentleman who the children call "Dan the Garden Man".
Dan is one of my favourite people on Earth,
and his garden is the summertime home for our seedlings,
which we plant in his garden in May.
